Movie Review

Rating :

Verdict : Good cast but poor story and silly execution

“Yamla, Pagla, Deewana 2”is the third movie to star three members of the Deol family – Dharmendra, and his sons Sunny and Bobby. The Bollywood family first appeared together in “Apne,” (one’s own) in 2007, and “Yamla Pagla Deewana” part one in 2011. Film also stars Neha Sharma, Kristeena Keeva, Johnny Lever and Anupam Kher in other lead roles. The movie has released today and let’s read on to see how it is.

Story:-

The formidable trio of Dharam Singh (Dharmendra), Gajodhar (Bobby Deol) and Paramvir (Sunny Deol) are back once again as the story moves to the United Kingdom this time. Dharam Singh and Gajodar decide to con a wealthy businessman named Yograj Khanna (Annu Kapoor) by getting Gajodar to marry Suman (Neha Sharma) who is Yograj’s only daughter.

The plan is put in action and slowly Gajodar woos Suman and gets ready for a lavish engagement to be held in Scotland. Reaching Scotland, Gajodar is shocked to see his own brother Paramvir (Sunny Deol) who is working for Yograj. The duo gets another big shock when they find out that Suman is the adopted daughter of Yograj and Yograj’s own daughter is Reet (Kristeena Keeva) who in turn is in love with Paramvir.

A disappointed Gajodar and Dharam change plans and decide to woo Reet so as to get their hands on Yograj’s property. Paramvir comes to know about the duo’s game plan and warns them from going ahead with their scheme. The rest of the story is whether Dharam and Gajodar manage to woo Reet and if Paramavir will go against his own family?

Positive Points:-

YPD 2 definitely has a few positive things about it. As usual, Dharmendra and Booby Deol’s chemistry is a major asset for the film. The chimp which plays an important role in the film is extremely lovable. The chimp is hilarious and its scenes with Dharmendra are worth waiting for. The kids in the audience are surely going to love the film for the chimpanzee.

Sunny and Bobby Deol play their parts well while the female leads Neha and Kristeena look drop-dead gorgeous. Some comedy scenes in the second half are really good with Johnny lever playing his part extremely well as he brings in the laughter. The title song is super cool and has been shot superbly. Also, the movie has some rich visuals.

Negative Points:-

YPD 2 is a huge let down when compared to the first installment. The sequel lacks focus as the whole plot goes for a toss. The situations and comedy seems to be forced and many scenes have been dragged out. The entire first half is way too long and major scenes could have been edited out to maintain a rhythm. Sunny Deol does his routine Punjab da puttar role and becomes monotonous after a point.

‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’ had the sizzling chemistry of the Deols which is completely missing here. The trio fails to hold the film together and mostly falter because of poor direction. The length of the film is too long and cinematic liberties have been taken too liberally. Those who have not seen the first part might feel more disgusted seeing the sequel.

Technical Aspects:-

The cinematography is outstanding as it showcases the beautiful locales of United Kingdom. The music of the film is decent and goes with the flow. Unfortunately director Sangeeth Sivan loses the plot and makes a mess of what could have been a simple and fun film. He could not bring the magic or flavor that the first part had managed to create. Dialogues are just about Ok and so is the editing.

The screenplay of the movie is a big letdown as many scenes just flow with the story. The makers have tried to cash in the star power of the Deols but have failed miserably. The only saving grace of the film is the chimpanzee which will be liked all the kids.

Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 (also known by the abbreviated form YPD2), is a Bollywood comedy film directed by Sangeeth Sivan , and the sequel to the 2011 hit film, Yamla Pagla Deewana. The film features Sunny Deol, Dharmendra and Bobby deol reprising their roles from the previous film along with Anupam Kher and Johny Lever  in supporting roles with new additions including Neha Sharma and Kristina Akheeva   (debuting in this film) as the female leads alongside Bobby Deol and Sunny Deol respectively. The sequel was announced after the success of the original, and the project began filming in September 2012.
