Verdict : Emotional ride with good script and talented actors
Priyanka Chopra and Farhan Akhtar starrer 'The Sky Is Pink' is the story of Aisha Chaudhary as she finds comfort in the everlasting love of her parents and her brother's unwavering support. The film is Aisha played by Zaira Wasim narrating the love story of her parents Aditi played by Priyanka and Niren played by Farhan.
The film starts with Aditi and Niren falling love with each other as in future Aisha in born with a immune deficiency and they have to fight their way to keep her alive. We follow Aditi and Niren as they work their way around Aisha's treatments in London with and apart from each other untill they finally come back to India after Aisha doesn't need the treatment again.
Happy to start to a normal school and a simple life without hospitals Aisha soon finds out she has Pulmonary fibrosis which is an irreversible lung disease. The story follows a non linear path as Aisha narrates incidents she remembers in the past 25 years of her parents life. The film starts with them meeting and ends seven months after Aisha's death.
The screenplay and script of the film follows a scene jump pattern making it hard to link incidents and situations. Written by Shonali Bose 'The Sky Is Pink' at times comes of as only several parts of Aisha's life collaged together instead of a story. As for the direction we have several scenes have a dragged effect to pull out a reaction from the audience.
Priyanka Chopra takes the forefront in the film like a mother while Farhan Akhtar plays the typical father keeping his feelings bottled up. But Priyanka takes the overbearing-ness of her character to the screen whole Farhan blossom as an actor in the subtle emotions he showcases in the film. Zaira Wasim constantly makes her presence felt with the narration and Aisha's brother played by Rohit Saraf also has a strong contribution to the story. The film's casting is astonishing given how the cast looks so close to the real people. The director also gives an ode to her sons and Aisha's family during the end credits.
Overall the film is a heavy drama that will lead you to take on empty your tissue box.
