Verdict : Shirin Farhad Ki Sweet Love Story!

People become naughty at forty! Farah and Boman are perfect example. After watching Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi I just felt love has no boundaries. It can happen anytime - anywhere. For every female angel there is male devil  :P

Well jokes apart. Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi is Bela Sehgals very first movie as a director and Farah’s first movie as an actor. Having a look at Shirin Farhad it reminds me of Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s light films like Golmaal, Chupke Chupke, Bawarchi… not in terms of story line but in terms of Characters. Light heartened crispy, good-hearted characters, enter their lives, see them dealing with regular problems and then resolving conflicts without much ado or overt drama.

Shirin Farhad Ki love story is somewhat similar HM film types. Shirin and Farhad are middle aged individuals waiting for angels sign to fall in love. Farhad Pastakia - age 45, works for his own undergarment shop. Simple yet boring life, Curved by his dominating mother. But, life hails a twist and turning point for him when he meets Shirin. who makes him feel comfortable enough to talk about his business aspirations and love for Dukes’ etc. Shirin is taken in by Farhad’s simplicity and good nature. Farhan loves Shirin’s outgoing and bubbly nature who breathed a life into his living. Like in most Hindi films every love story needs a villain to make it crispy. Here enters the villain mother India (Farhad’s Mother) who opposes for their marriage. Hit the theatres to know what turns out at the end.

I think the situations are dubbed from real life. Today’s world where people are so busy in their routine life and wait for ages to fall in love for the right person for them. It’s common these days. Especially, for those who are unmarried even at their forties.

Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi is filled light and laughter moments. From start to end you would keep laughing even when it’s a sad scene. Some moments you burst out laughing as if you don’t care who is sitting next to you. When Shirin comes over to meet Farhad’s family for the first time, the humour consistent almost right through the scene and entire film. Most of Farhad’s antics are entertaining, more so because Boman Irani makes the character come alive with little gestures and a faultless performance. Several of his interactions with Shirin are heart-warming. At one point, Farhad spells out his matrimonial bio, as if out of habit, while expressing his love for her. “Name: Farhad Pastakia, Age: 45,” and so on, before proclaiming: “First love: Shirin. Last love: Shirin.” One liners are so good especially when, Shirin ads to test Farhad’s filmy knowledge she says “I love Ranbir Roshan!” in fact there are so many dialogues that you can’t skip off.

Bela has done a very good. She keeps it simple by keeping it natural. Farah as an actress is best when she is not acting. She picked up the Character so well that she keeps no space and folly. Boman in comic is anytime a treat to watch. Boman Irani and Farah Khan’s onscreen chemistry is just cute and adorable. A bit of shyness, feel of love, a mixed kind of feeling all of this fall in place when it comes to Shirin and Farhad ki love story. The scenes dubbed from Farah’s direct Kuch Kuch Hota Hain, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and other are just like extra sugar quoted over a ladoo. May be shaadi ka ladoo! While talking about actress I can’t skip of my eyes from Shammiji, the veteran actor seen on the silver screen after a long time. As Farhad’s grandmother and confidante, Shammiji is endearing and her scenes with Irani are memorable. The Parsi humour is funny most of the time, but the constant stereotyping gets jarring at places. I love the disco track - title song Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi. What slow done the pace of movie are the slow songs which drags it to a bit of boredom. But what makes it up is Boman as a Parsi man and Shammiji’s soulful act. Top on the icing stands confused Farah and her love life. Altogether it’s an amazing love story that suggests love never ends.

My verdict

Under two hours, Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi demands little of you and delivers enough for you to not grudge spending time and money on it. To grab some honest and lovable moments out of you busy life with your loved ones I suggest it would be a good choice this weekend.  People who have watched have give it a 3 stars and some who had even watched last week’s big release “Ek Tha Tiger” has suggested “Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi” is any time better in comparison. Well this was my and most public’s choice. Hence, I would rate it a 3 and a half star but you got to decide yourself how much do you agree with us!
