Movie Review

Rating :

Verdict : if you are planning to watch Revolver Rani for Kangana, go ahead otherwise skip it. ___________________________________________________________________________________

Tigmanshu Dhulia mastered art of making films in Hindi heartland of UP/MP i.e. 'Haasil', 'Paan SIngh Tomar, 'Sahab Biwi Aur Gangster'. Now his protegee is ready with this hard hitting female oriented drama.

Film has rather interesitng plot. A small town near Gwalior where a dreaded lady criminal Alka (Kangana Ranaut) is calling the shot but she one enemy rival politician (Zakir Hussain). Balli Mama (Piyush Mishra) has taken care of Alka after her father was murdered. Alka killed her first husband due to infidelity and now her love interest is one Bollywood aspirant Rohan Kapoor (Vir Das). She keeps him like 'toy boy'. How her pregnancy complicates her emotion and political cum gangster life forms the crux of the story.

Positive Points:-

Kangana Ranaut is currently at a stage of her career where she is capable of looking good in whatever she takes up and with her ruthless attitude, Kangana tries to salvage the film to a bit.

Kangana’s expressions and dialogue delivery has definitely improved by leaps and bounds while Vir Das is good in the role of a struggling Bollywood actor. The plot of the film about a political leader and a struggling actor certainly looks interesting.

The talented Piyush Mishra excels in his role while Pankaj Saraswat and Zakir Husain have done decent jobs. A special mention goes to the actor who plays the anchor of a news channel as he is the only one who tickles people’s funny bones to a certain extent.

Negative Points:-

Kangana has been made to look slightly over the top with her funky clothes and weird shaped goggles. Vir Das may have been a part of the whole movie, but he has not been given much space to explore his skills.

Even though the makers were intending to make a political satire, the end product turned out to be a spoof with some occasional funny sequences thrown in. Right from the wild intimate scenes between Kangana and Vir, the entry of random characters into the plot, to a bad screenplay, the entire movie is tacky and pointless.

It is a perfect example of a senseless film that confuses the audience right from the first scene till the end. The first half is slow paced and boring while the second half is completely filled with illogical humor.

Technical Aspects:-

After all the negativity that the movie flaunts, the icing on the cake is the addition of too many songs. There are 12 songs in the movie which keep coming one after another in regular intervals and by the time you exit the theatres, you might not remember even one of them.

The dialogues are decent especially the ones given to the anchor of a news show. Director Sai Kabir’s direction is a disappointment and he brings nothing to the movie.

The worst part of the film has to be its screenplay which is extremely loose. The plot of the movie is decent, but a bad screenplay couldn’t let the plot play its role.

Editing is extremely bad as the scenes go on from one to another, without any logic or sense.

Revolver Rani is a upcoming Hindi comedy drama film written and directed by Sai Kabir. The film is presented by Wave Cinemas. It features Kangana Ranaut and Vir Das in leading roles. While Piyush Mishra, Zakir Hussain and Pankaj Saraswat are playing supporting roles in the film. The film is a satirical and unusual love story set against the backdrop of politics and is slated for release on April 25, 2014.
