Rating :
The second instalment in horror franchise Stree, producer Dinesh Vijan hits it out of park with Roohi. The horror-comic caper stars Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma in the lead roles.
Helmed by Hardik Mehta, the film is set in a village of Bagadpur where Bhavra (Rajkummar) and Kattani (Varun) work for a newspaper but they also work as henchmen for their boss who kidnaps women and gets them forcibly married. But, the village is also well-known to be haunted by a ‘chudail’ who takes possession of women who are about to get married.
Bhavra and Kattani ends up kidnapping Janhvi who is about to get married. She plays a double role of the innocent Roohi and the terrifying chudail Afza, who takes possession of her body much to the dismay and horror of Bhavra and Kattani.
Janhvi, Varun and Rajkummar, the trio are unstoppable with their comic timing and crackling chemistry. The laugh-riot doesn’t end throughout the film.
Rajkummar aces the lisp and stutter, Varun, is just sublime with his comic timing. Janhvi, does a fine balance of bringing two contrasting personalities on screen. While she seems innocent, docile and naive as Roohi, she is fierce, angry and explosive as Afza. Janhvi’s transition from one character to another is commendable.
Mrighdeep Singh Lamba and Gautam Mehra’s screenplay and dialogue of the film does not let the audience’s attention waver till the very end.
The film’s first half is more entertaining than the second half and the film’s comedy sometimes seems stale and wanting. Roohi manages to bring a smile on your face and that’s all matters!
The film is a complete over the top masala entertainer and will definitely appeal to the audience.
Shahid Kapoor essays the role of Rajkumar - a rugged, rebellious, passionate fighter who also has a devilish charm. One moment he makes you feel really comfortable and the very next, completely ill at ease! Rajkumar is sexy, brooding and raw.
Sonakshi Sinha plays the role of Chanda - a gorgeous, strong character. She is the niece of a poppy lord called Manik Parmar. Chanda is elegant and looks stunning. A TRUE Indian beauty!
R Rajkumar - it's a Romantic Action Love story set in dusty and rugged backdrop of the Hindi Heartland. A film that has out and out desi tracks (true dance numbers) with loads of intrigue, thrill and fun - a perfect entertainer by all means. The ravines shall tower high over the Poppy Fields, overlooking a dangerous foundation without law, justice or order.
