Verdict : Mr. Joe B Carvalho is a total disaster of a movie. Except for Arshad Warsi’s histrionics, this film has nothing much to offer. Stay away from this one.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Director Samir Tewari’s ‘Mr Joe B Carvalho’ starring Arshad Warsi and Soha Ali Khan has released today with the promise that the film will be an out-an-out comedy. Lets read on to know whether ‘Mr Joe B Carvalho’ lives up to the expectations it has set up.
Story:-
Mr. Joe B Carvalho (Arshad Warsi) is a failed detective who stays with his blind mother. One fine day, he is given a big case of bringing Nina Khurana (Karishma Kotak, who had eloped with her ageing servant Ramlal, back to her father.
On the other hand, Inspector Shantipriya (Soha Ali Khan) is given the case of arresting Kaatil Carlos (Jaaved Jaffrey) who is known to be a master-of-disguise and incidentally, both Joe and Shantipriya land up in the same place to solve their respective cases.
Shantipriya misjudges Joe for Kaatil Carlos and starts chasing him. Will Shantipriya find out who the actual Carlos is? Will Joe finally solve his case? For all these answers, you need to watch the film on the big screen.
Positive Points:-
Arshad is excellent and is the only saving grace of this film while Soha looks extremely beautiful and her cabaret act is pretty good. Jaaved Jaffrey has once again done a decent job with his multi-faceted character. The first half of the film has a few humorous sequences.
Negative Points:-
Except for one or two good jokes, there is nothing in the movie which will amuse you. Jaaved hasn’t given much to do and a talented actor like him has been completely wasted. There are many unwanted characters placed in the plot which makes the film tedious. Even the romantic scenes between Soha and Arshad are unnecessary and too cheesy while Kunal Khemu and Babul Supriyo’s special appearances are again unnecessary.
The plot of the film is ruined with some unwanted sequences like the one where Soha tries hard to seduce Arshad. The climax is misleading and gets confusing as it goes along. The second half is completely wasted and has nothing great to talk about.

Technical Points:-
The songs in the film are no good except for Soha’s cabaret number. Samir’s direction lacks focus and goes haywire. While the story sounds funny, the execution makes it absolutely boring. The background score is pretty good and makes even the most boring of scenes a little amusing. The screenplay is bad as a number of scenes are confusing.
