Movie Review

Rating :

Verdict : ‘Jai Ho’ delivers a strong message to the audience but packages it in the true Salman Khan style. Go watch it!

It’s been more than a year since we saw Salman Khan on the big screen as his last release was ‘Dabangg 2’ in 2012. Now, the heartthrob of millions is back with his latest flick in the form of the much-awaited ‘Jai Ho’. Directed by his younger sibling Sohail Khan, ‘Jai Ho’ has newcomer Daisy Shah and Tabu in other important roles. After a string of huge promotions, the film has finally hit the screens today and so let’s read on to know how it is.

Story:-

Jai Agnihotri (Salman Khan) is an ex-army officer who lives with his family in Mumbai. He is an honest person who always lends a helping hand to others and does not tolerate injustice in any form.

One fine day, an ugly incident involving his sister Geeta (Tabu) causes a huge crisis in Jai’s life. This lands him in a situation where he has to confront the evil forces of the Minister Sharma (Danny Denzongpa) and his powerful system.

The rest of Jai Ho’ is about how Jai sticks to his principles and ideologies and manages to win against the evil powers of the society.

Positive Points:-

Once again, ‘Jai Ho’ is an out and out Salman Khan film. Right from the very first frame, it is a Salman Khan show all the way. Interestingly, Salman chooses a noble subject and presents himself in a very unique way.

Salman is impressive as the common man and strikes a chord with the audience as he does everything that is expected of him and delivers a knockout punch. Tabu makes a comeback with a powerful role and the talented actress suits her role perfectly and complements Salman in every scene.

Though debutante Daisy Shah does not have much to do in the film, she impresses with her captivating screen presence. Her chemistry with Salman is endearing and her dances are also good.

The whole setup and the manner in which the film delivers a strong message is quite outstanding. It is very nice to see a big star like Salman come out of his comfort zone and indulge in a message oriented film like ‘Jai Ho’.

Also, the not so successful Bollywood actors like Ashmit Patel, Sana Khan and many other actors are given meaty roles in this film. While the first half has songs, dance and some comic sequences, the second half is filled with high voltage action and of course Salman’s six pack abs.

Negative Points:-

The major drawback with the last few films of Salman were that all of them were highly predictable and this is same with ‘Jai Ho’ as the film gets highly predictable after the first 30 mins.

Typically, the songs in Salman’s films has always been huge hits, but that is not the case with ‘Jai Ho’ as the music is a big letdown and does not manage to register.

The second half of the film is high on action and drama and those who seek typical Salman like comic entertainment might be a bit disappointed with this film.

Technical Aspects:-

As usual, action sequences are top notch and Salman does splendidly well in that department. As mentioned earlier, the music is a big letdown. The dialogues that have been specially written for Salman are top notch and will be loved by the masses.

The cinematography is decent and the whole common man set up looks real. The songs, dances and all the heavy duty emotional scenes have been designed well to suit the films nativity.

Sohail Khan’s direction is decent and does not experiment much. To his credit, he sticks to the original plot and successfully manages to deliver a strong message in a very entertaining Salman Khan style.

Jai Ho is an upcoming Bollywood action Drama film starring Salman Khan and Tabu in lead roles. It is a remake of Telugu film Stalin starring Chiranjeevi in the lead role. The film is directed by Sohail Khan under the Sohail Khan Production franchise. The film is set to release on 24 January 2014.
