Verdict : Dolly Ki Doli is funny, pacy and entertaining. Superb casting. Raj Kummar Rao is outstanding So go and Watch _______________________________________________________________________
Dolly Ki Doli, produced by Arbaaz Khan, has already created enough buzz amongst the movie goers. Film comes up with a unique and novel concept where a girl keeps conning well to do bridegrooms by marrying them. Film is a remake of a 2013 Punjabi film "RSVP - Ronde Saare Vyah Picho". Abhishek Dogra has written and directed the movie. Sonam Kapoor has played the title role, while Pulkit Samrat, Rajkummar Rao and Varun Sharma appear in important roles. Film hit the screens today. So, let's find out whether 'Dolly Ki Doli' will give us another fun entertainer on the lines of Sonam's last hit 'Khoobsurat' or might be another con based film where besides the novel idea, has nothing more to offer.
Story:-
The film’s story revolves around the character named Dolly (Sonam Kapoor) who is only good at fooling men with her beauty. Ones she makes the men fall for her, she gets married to them and runs away with all the money the next morning.
Dolly works with a gang, who never gets captured in anyone’s camera. In her journey of theft, she meets various lover boys like Sonu Sarawat (Rajkummar Rao) and Manoj Singh Chadda (Varun Sharma), whom she eventually gets married to and fools them robbing everything she possibly could. Her case is given to inspector, Robin Singh (Pulkit Samrat), who has a past attached to Dolly.
What is Robin and Dolly’s relation? And will Robin be able to catch Dolly and the gang? Forms the rest of the movie.
Positive Points:-
The best part about the film is the fact that its duration is only 100 mins. The film starts and finishes within a small time space without giving the audience any time to get bored. The first half of the film is entertaining as it deals with the way in which Dolly traps her targets.
Speaking of performances, Sonam looks glamorous in every scene and acts better than most of her previous ventures. Rajkummar Rao, Varun Sharma are amazing in every frame. Rajkummar’s dance in the item number is worth a mention. Pulkit too looks handsome and performs well. His Haryanvi accent was quite entertaining.
Negative Points:-
While the first half is fine, the second half of the story is really absurd and goes haywire. The story eventually looses its grip with characters entering the screens from nowhere. The climax again is seriously ridiculous and very predictable.
Some of the great talents like Rajkummar, Varun and Zeeshan are completed wasted in the film by not giving much scope. Pulkit Sharma’s character is kept very confusing and being close to Salman, he copies a lot from Salman’s character of ‘Dabbang’. Saif’s cameo is wasted completely.
A few parts about the movie are not believable. The worst and the most surprising thing is that even after being married to so many guys, Dolly never gets captured in anyone’s camera. The reason why even the police does not have her single picture.
Technical Points:-
Director Abhishek Dogra couldn’t manage to entertain his audience throughout the movie. It was only in the first half that the interest factor was alive, the second half completely lowered the bar and the interest went aloof due to the confusing and weird screenplay.
Cinematography by Saurabh Goswami is okay, while the editing by Hemal Kothari is not up to the mark. The songs are fine, especially Malliaka’s item number, and are placed well in the plot.
