Movie Review
Rating :
Verdict : Total Siyapaa can easily be ignored because of its loose plot, bad performances and even worse direction. ________________________________________________________________
After successful films like A Wednesday and Special Chabbis, Neeraj Pandey puts on his writers shoes for E Niwas’s directorial venture, Total Siyapaa. The movie starring Ali Zafar and Yami Gautam hits the theatres today.
Story:-
Set in the backdrop of London, Aman (Ali) and Asha (Yami) are a couple madly in love with each other. Everything goes as planned in their lives, until Asha takes Ali to meet her crazy family. Asha’s mother (Kirron Kher) is a typical Punjabi mummy, who has her own limitations while selecting her daughter’s husband.
Asha’s elder sister is married and has a seven-year-old daughter, but stays at her mummy’s house. She also has a younger brother who hates Pakistanis. Asha’s father (Anupam Kher) is a hard worker, who stays at his office as long as he day goes by. Hell breaks out loose as Asha’s parents come to know that Ali is a Pakistani.
Will Aman manage to impress Asha’s crazy family? Will he gel into her world knowing the fact that he is a Pakistani? For all these question you need to watch the film on big screen.
Positive Points:-
Yami and Ali make a lovely pair and look extremely cute together. A few dialogues by the end are funny and have the capability to make you laugh.
Music of the film is pretty decent and the way the typical Indian Punjabi family has been showcased is also good.
Nagetive Points:-
Now this is the part I want to talk about the most. 15 mins into the film, I could hear people yawning or sleeping or engaging in their mobile phones.
Total Siyapaa is an official remake of 2004 Spanish comedy, Seres queridos (Only Human). Even though director E Niwas played a safe card and planned to cash on the remake formula, he couldn’t have done any worse.
The situations that are supposed to be funny are mere boring and the ones supposed to be serious are unintentionally funny. On the performance part, Ali is OK but over-does his part in a few scenes.
Yami, who showed her acting prowess in Vicky Donor, is nothing short of a disappointment in this one. Kirron Kher is so over-the-top that by the second half her face and expressions start haunting me. Anupam Kher is seen only by the second half in a unnecessary role, which he over-does in every way possible.
Technical Points:-
The three songs that I remember of the movie, ‘Palat Meri jaan’ and ‘Nahi Maloom’ and even the title track is the only thing that comes out with you. But alas, even these are placed wrongly in the plot.
The cinematography is fine, but the editing is anything close to being sharp. You will have no idea as to why and how the next scene started or is even taking place. Sanjoy Chowdhury’s background score is unnecessary.
E Niwas’ direction is haunting and makes the characters look even worse. He makes a complete mess of a simple story line and creates chaos in the film.
