Movie Review
Rating :
Unlike other biopics in recent times which try their best to tell the whole story Rajkumar Hirani's Sanju tells the whole story without the efforts of packing the livelong tale in 160 minutes. The film humanizes the real-life character Sanjay Dutt by focusing on his relationships with his father Sunil Dutt (Paresh Rawal) and his best friend Kamli (Vicky Kaushal) in the first half before the reality hits as he is charged with TADA (Terrorism Act) in the second half.
The film starts with Sanju who is preparing to go to Jail in a month for 5 years. Failed by media and their false news escapades all his life, Sanju is looking for a writer who will help him tell his side of the truth. Which he finds in Winnie Diaz (Anushka Sharma), an established biographer. Rejected by her, Sanju asks for a chance to conceive her his story is worth her time, Sanju narrates parts of his story starting the sort of biopic.
The film jumps back and forth giving each character a chance to become part of the story and leave an impact. Ranbir Kapoor playing the part of Sanjay Dutt is one of the best things in the movie. Miraculously the actor has mirrored Sanjay Dutt and recreated an amazing image of the actor from his young age to recent films. Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt and Vicky Kaushal as best friend create some of the heart wrenching and best scenes in the film.
With incredibly timed music and humor, the film creates a lasting impact on the audience.
