Movie Review

Rating :

Verdict : Watch at your own risk.

KLPD (Kismat Love Paisa Dilli) is of course a popular North Indian expletive, essentially means someone who’s primed up for something good to happen to them, and that gets taken away right at the moment when it really counts. It’s a story of the lives of the two lead actors in this film: Vivek Oberoi, Mallika Sherawat, both are fated once in the media as some sort of super-stars in the making, and now they’ve been reduced to such unimaginably hopeless duds. You surely can find the title is just so perfect.

Oberoi plays a Dilliwallah, named Lokesh acts like a lost fool whose favorite cuss words are “Iski Maa jee. Being from the capital of India of course also means he participates in the city’s official sport: “shikaar” So he chases down an unknown hot girl Lovina (Mallika Sherawat) down to the last metro at 11:40, with a condom in his pocket, hoping to get her to bed in a kholi in Munirka. You want to know why Delhi is so unsafe for women. Well, here’s the hero. You can imagine what the villains must be up to.

Rest of the story is like that Vivek gets involved in the death of a mysterious, white-sari clad, pretty woman (Neha Dhupia). On the run from the cops, Lokesh bumps into Lovina again. Then there’s the slap-happy Captain (Ashutosh Rana) and his gang who want to celebrate the former’s birthday with a looting spree in Delhi but end with just about spare change. An innocent delivery-boy-turned-flying-ear-biting-maniac Nunnoo (Anshuman Jha) adds more commotion to the confused story. This isn’t it: there’s also a missing sting tape, another group chasing the duo, a politician’s son who, yells “Hail Corruption!” at his party, a rape song and some horrendous gags on gay designers. What’s this film about then? Well, films don’t always have to be about something, Watching the film surely you will feel like what the hell is going on!!!

There’s not really much acting to talk about. Mallika Sherawat gives her usual expressions. Vivek Oberoi is no Delhi-boy and it clearly shows. At times he tries so hard that you begin to pity him. Ashutosh Rana does well as the Captain but his grey lenses don’t make sense. Anshuman Jha gets on your nerves as Nunnoo. Neha Dhupia is ordinary in her cameo. Sanjay Khanduri’s direction is alright but he dug the pit for himself with his script. Music directors Amjad Nadeem and Santokh Singh has done a ok job.

Finally KLPD is a painful watch that’s better avoided. And hope next time director Sanjay Khanduri let go of his obsession with last trains and metros moves on to make something different and entertaining.
