Movie Review
Rating :
Verdict : Siddiqui's performance is the only reason this film is not a complete washout.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui as an undergarment dealer who turns a blackmailer and afterward rises as a golf champion — you need to acknowledge that simply as an idea, Freaky Ali has a ton of potential. In any case, the film, coordinated by Sohail Khan and featuring Amy Jackson, can satisfy it?
Story: Freaky Ali opens with Siddiqui's presently unbelievable 'chaddi-chaddi' monolog as we see him attempting his best to offer underwears in the city. From a chaddi seller and goon to being the area cricket star and future golf player - the film moves in an old hat but thankfully , Siddiqui, the performer, soon beats the commonplace storyline and right from the moment he starts his training to become a golfer, we start enjoying his presence. Co-writers Khan and Raj Shaandilya have come up with a modern, fun-filled screenplay that makes the cliched plot not just bearable but enjoyable.
As for the performance, Siddiqui proves once again that he is the star when it comes to acting. Seema Biswas, who plays his foster mom, is good but only in parts because she has her own share of over-the-top melodrama. As for the rest, Freaky Ali has a strong supporting cast like Arbaaz Khan, Asif Basra), who do good enough to collect their paycheck. Amy Jackson perpetually looks like an air hostess. Jas Arora (that cute guy from Bally Sagoo's Gur Nal Ishq Mitha who turned into the unintendedly-funny villain in Sunny Leone's Ek Paheli Leela) is brilliant as the snobby, princely golf champion. He should appear in more films in good roles.
In spite of the adages and acting, we discovered Freaky Ali worth the time and money. From the 'capable on-screen character' for the scholarly people or as a common man's performer, Siddiqui is one star we cherish.
