Movie Review

Rating :

Verdict : Daawat-e-Ishq may not be a perfect film but it's an adorable love story, you can watch one time for the social message it offers and also for Aditya’s and Parineeti's amazing performance. _______________________________________________________________________________________

Director of Film Do Dooni Chaar' and 'Ishaqzaade' Habib Faisal is back to give his fans a film based on food and love in the form of Daawat-e-Ishq. Starring Parineeti Chopra, Aditya Roy Kapur and Anupam Kher in key roles, Both his previous films had the cities playing as a key character and with 'Daawat-e-Ishq', he seems to venture into the culture of traditional cities like 'Hyderabad' & 'Lucknow'. Film going to release  today, So, let's find out whether this blend of two different cities will manage to boom the love in its audience's heart or might just land as a typical romantic film presented in a different package to make it look different.

Story:-

Gulrez (Parineeti Chopra), who stays with her father in Hyderabad, has been rejected by a string of boys as her family is too poor to give dowry. She is dejected and heart-broken by this string of rejections and finally decides to leave all this and move to America for future studies. To arrange for the finances for her higher studies, Gulrez and her father come up with a plan to move to Lucknow where Gulrez would get married to a guy by offering a huge dowry and then they would file an anti-dowry case against the groom to get a huge alimony.

However, in this process, she meets Tariq (Aditya Roy Kapoor) who is a thorough sensitive gentleman who loves Gulrez her for the person she is.

Now will Gulrez get married to Tariq for what he is? Or will Tariq demand dowry from her as well? Will she be able to pursue her higher studies in America? The answer to these questions is what the rest of Daawat-e-Ishq is all about …

Positive Points:-

Daawat-e-Ishq may sound like a love story but surprisingly it is a movie that conveys a strong social message. After playing a drunkard in his last two ventures, Aditya Roy Kapur has finally donned a different sober avatar in this one and we must admit that he does full justice to his Lucknowi character. Parineeti Chopra is ok in her act as the Hyderabadi girl while the best of all is Anupam Kher. He is convincing in every scene and displays his strong acting prowess once again.

The good part about the film is the involvement of some mouth-watering delicacies of Hyderabad which tempt you to go the city and actually savor them.

Negative Points:-

The movie undoubtedly has an extremely weak plot. Parineeti, who has generally stolen the show in all her previous movies, fails to impress us in this one. It seems that she has not put in her 100% and this can be called the weakest performance of her career. The chemistry between Parineeti and Aditya seems to be forced and the romantic parts too don’t gel well with the plot.

The climax is disappointing and a stretched second half makes the film a boring affair. Also a few parts of the film seem to have forced romance which is not needed. We wish the makers had concentrated more on the message than the not-so-important romance.

Technical Aspects:-

Director Habibi Faisal is a good filmmaker and this has been proved with his previous movies but this one would not count amongst his best works. The songs of the film are good and the title track is the best of the lot. The rest of songs too are worth a listen, but they not placed well in the screenplay. The screenplay of the film is stretched and not really praise-worthy.

While the first half was a little watchable, the second half turns out to be extremely boring and fast-paced. The boring lecture on dowry in the second half will definitely have the viewers taking a nice power nap. The cinematography is decent as the camera covers the parts of Hyderabad and the scrumptious delicacies extremely well. The editing could have been crispier than what we see.
