Movie Review

Rating :

Verdict : You can Skip it ______________________________________________________

Religion, terrorism, Jihad these are some themes which have been tried since the time of Dil se and Bombay. Even Fiza, Black Friday and many more are good examples of these themes, but films like Tere Bin Laden and Filmistaan brought a twist to these serious subjects with a touch of comedy and satire. This week's release BANGISTAN is again a satirical take on terrorism. Will it hit the Box-Office 'Bang-on' or will it completely miss its target, lets analyze.

Story :-

Bangistan is a story of two young, easily influenced boys from the fictitious nation who travel as suicide bombers to Poland (Pulkit Samrat aka Pravin & Ritesh Deshmukh aka Hafeez Bin Ali). While the first, a ‘Ram Leela’ performer is a Right Wing Hindu, enthralled by a guruji that leads the quirkily named political party ‘Maa Ki Dal’, the other is a devout Muslim who sheds his call centre job due to an identity crisis and decides to plunge into ‘jihad’ full time. He too is won over by the violent message and promise of heaven of ‘Al Kaam Tamaam’. Their coincident missions are to sabotage a World Religions Conference, where peace and brotherhood will be discussed. . Destiny makes the duo meet each other not only at the airport on reaching, but also end up as neighbours. Noticing how much they respect each other's religion and also getting somewhat enamoured by a free spirited bartender, Rosie (Jacqueline Fernandes), they realize how similar they are and become close friends in an alien country … until one day Pravin discovers (read 'uncovers') the real motive of Hafeez Bin Ali. What happens to their 'friendship' after this discovery, does the duo succeed in bombing the religious peace conference is what forms the rest of the film.

Positive Points :-

Unfortunately, no positive points for Bangistan, except the big banner of Excel entertainment. Infact even their sensibility is put to a question mark as to how Farhan and Ritesh led Excel Entertainment greenlit this project ? The only good thing (a formality) is its one liners and few punches.

Negative Points :-

Script or more than script it’s a screenplay, direction, music all these factors are enough for the film’s downfall.Satires are written around situations & humour emerges from those situations. None of that happens in this film. So perhaps, not much got written in the first place. Ritesh Deshmukh is completely wasted in this film, and the only saving grace. Pulkit Samrat is simply bad, Within first half an hour you realize that the film is too predictable and its approach for such a serious subject is very amateurish.

Technical Points : -

Film has no direction and director should seriously think about it. Infact being a critic earlier he should honestly publish a review of his own film. Music is no good with unimpressive lyrics. Editing is average and only good aspect is the phography.

Last Word : -

Karan Anshuman fails to impress with his debut venture as Bangistan has nothing which our audience can look for. Youth can watch it only to memorize the one liners and some innovative naming system with which they can have some good time among friends.
