Verdict : It’s light-hearted and quite smart, So go and Watch it _____________________________________________________________________
We're at that stage in the evolution of urban Indian cinema where even marriage dramas and eternal love stories are slotted in the cosmopolitan romcom category. Hence, it is a bit refreshing to come across a title that promises to throw the kitchen sink of lightweight tricks at us; a film that, for fear of being too unoriginal, employs the services of one of India's favourite standup comics. Let’s see how this film is, as film is going to release today, film Directed by Ajay Bhuyan and main lead played by Vir Das, Vega Tamotia, Anindita Nayar, Kavi Shastri, Natasha Rastogi,
Amit Sahni (Virr Das) is well settled investment banker who is an ardent fan of Sachin Tendulkar. After undergoing a huge breakup in his college days, Amit prepares a list of qualities which his dream girl should posses. After a series of underwhelming dates with assorted women, he meets Mala (Vega Tamotia), a free-spirited tomboy with a passion for adventure sports and a soft spot for her pet pug. She's nothing like the girl on his list should be, and yet Amit finds himself falling for her. But shortly before they are to be married, conflict shows up in the form of curvaceous Devika (Anandita Nayar), who's smart, successful and smoking hot - in short, everything that's down on the list. Did Amit break his engagement for Devika? What happens to Maala ? That forms the rest of the story.
ASKL is an out and out Vir Das’s film. This comedian turned hero has carried the whole film on his shoulders. His comic timing and reactions were perfect as usual. Coming to female leads, Vega Tamotia gave a cute and energetic performance. Her emotions were apt during the break up scene.
Anindita Nayyar is gorgeous but her performance is just about ok. The concept of ‘Breakup Consultant’ is very new and funny. Dialogues are very good especially the one liners like “Beer se clarity nahi aayi, magar susu aayi”.
The first half of the film lagged the pace which makes the audience feel bored. There are many extended scenes between Virr Das and his friend Kavi Shastri. The interval bang is pretty normal and few routine comedy scenes make the plot less interested. Most of the film is quite predictable.
Director should have concentrated more on his screenplay especially in the first half of the film which have many unwanted scenes which only increased the run time. Except for the song which comes during the end titles, the rest have nothing much in them.
The music of this film is just about average, and so is the background score. The cinematography is very good and showed the picturesque locations beautifully. The bungee jump scenes were shot exceptionally well. Editing of the film is crisp but should have concentrated more on the first half of the film.
Director of this film, Ajay Bhutan has to be credited undoubtedly. He took a small concept and made it interesting with comedy coating and made it a joyous ride.
