Showcasing one’s talent on more than 30 shows and 1000 events in mid-20s is not everyone’s cup of tea. But Vikalp Mehta has these accomplishments to boast about. The name might not ring a bell in your mind, but perhaps you have seen him on shows where is popularly known as superstar Akshay Kumar’s lookalike and mimic.

 

For Vikalp, Akshay isn’t just someone who he merely imitates. Vikalp considers Akshay his inspiration and the sole reason for his tremendous success. He told media, “I was an ardent fan of Akshay right from the beginning. In fact, I came all the way from Rajasthan to Mumbai and waited the whole day at Mehboob Studios just to click a photograph with him.”

 

“Akshay Kumar is the biggest reason this small-town boy from Rajasthan has established his position in the entertainment industry. His backing has been the decisive factor in my career. Several stars become uncomfortable seeing mimics imitating them. But he has been extremely sporting. He knows me by my name and he introduces me to people saying ‘this is Vikalp and brilliantly mimics me’. Today I’ve stood in the same frame with him for various ads and shows, for which I’ll forever be grateful to him,” he added.

 

Vikalp considers himself a 3-in-1 package of an artist- entertainer-actor and relishes entertaining and bringing a smile on viewer’s lips. Though his hardwork has played the major factor, Vikalp credits destiny and luck for his success. He said, “Everybody has talents hidden in them but my talents were restless inside me and wanted to splash over. But I never envisaged coming to Mumbai, showcasing my talents or receiving such tremendous success and love. I accidently saw an audition ad, mimicked Akshay, danced to Singh Is King there and got selected. God, destiny and luck have played a substantial part in my career.”

 

Though Vikalp takes enormous pride in being familiar as Akshay’s lookalike, he doesn’t want to restrict himself to just that. He said, “I feel extremely good to be known as Akshay Kumar. But It’s my dream to be a host and anchor of popular shows like Jhalak Dikhlaja or DID or India’s Got Talent where I can entertain audiences with my mimicry, dancing and hosting skills. And not just that, I want to entertain renowned stars like Madhuri Dixit, Karan Johar among others face-to-face and make them laugh. I am now striving forward to accomplish this dream.”

 

Establishing one’s own identity is an advice given to him by his inspiration Akshay Kumar. He said, “Akshay told me you are blessed with talent, if you combine this talent with hard work you can create a significant reputation for yourself. His advice has stuck in my mind and I know that if I succeed as Vikalp and not Akshay, he will be happy for me.”

 

Breaking out of the Akshay Kumar mould, Vikalp will soon be seen in interesting and diverse roles in an upcoming TV show. He said, “After shows like Comedy Circus, Comedy Nights With Kapil, Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega among others, I’ll be coming to entertain you in the show ‘Hansi Hi Hansi Mil Toh Lein’ which airs on Sab TV every Sunday at 8 PM. I’ll not only be playing Akshay Kumar’s roles but also some other interesting roles. This show will definitely tickle your funny bone and you’ll love it. Our industry works on the principle of entertainment and this show is flooded with entertainment.”
