Singer Shahid Mallya's father, Krishna Kumar Mallya, known as Salim, was laid to rest today in Versova graveyard after succumbing to prolonged health issues. Salim, who was a playback singer like his son, passed away at Nanavati Hospital.
 
In a heartfelt statement to the media after the burial, Shahid Mallya remembered his father with deep affection, stating, "He considered Mohammad Rafi Saab as his guru, and whatever little I know of singing, I have learned from my father. Unfortunately, my father’s voice didn’t make it to the silver screen. No one looked at him as a playback singer, but what I saw was magical."
 
Shahid also reflected on his father's health struggles, revealing, "He had 4 major accidents in his life, one time he had his femur broken, one time his rod got dislodged and went straight into his muscles, during corona, he contracted a bad infection, and last year he slipped and fell in the bathroom, his backbone was broken, he wasn’t able to sit, walk, or eat properly. My mother’s hard work and prayer kept him alive for a year, and we all failed him today."
