The fashion brand ‘Mishru’ by Swapna Anumolu evokes visions of glamour and elegance at every show. After a spectacular presentation of the “Supernova” collection last season, Swapna, who is a favourite of many Bollywood fashion divas, brought the beauty of dreamy, unique cultures from her personal memories of Hyderabad and wove them into her collection, “Reminisce” during Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2019.
There was a distinct mix of cultures that was visible in the surface ornamentation of the garments. The specific use of Gota Lampi from the Nizamian era was the highlight of the collection, but reinvented to suit the millennial look of the swirling lehengas, dazzling blouses and a superior element of craft splashed on them.
The Jaalis on the majestic Paigah Tombs were turned into embellishments for the creations, along with Rococo art from the Chownahalla Palace. With white as the neutral anchor for ivory, blush, mauve and delicate grey tones, the colours were a pleasant mix of hues. The asymmetry in the floral motifs gave the ensembles a dramatic touch.
The white appliqués of leaves on fluid pants and matching blouse, a sexy mini skirt worn with a white embroidered blouse, a strappy top with a flared maxi skirt, were stunning entries on the ramp. Bringing more options, but following the theme closely, Swapna added an asymmetric midi skirt with a long, sheer coat for the very well edited collection.
The beauty of tonal embroidery was visible throughout the show as graceful pants, bustiers, jackets, bralets/embroidered covers, shararas and kurtas, as well as asymmetric bias pants with sheer jacket floated down the runway. Saris were displayed over fitted pants, while the embroidered long-sleeved blouse with a frilled skirt was eye-catching. Moving on to a mid-hue of mauve, the designer showcased an asymmetric kurta, net shararas with kurtis and brought in glitter with feminine offerings of gorgeous bridal or occasion wear.
The showstopper was the very lovely Diana Penty who moved gracefully on the catwalk in a mauve, fully-encrusted lehenga, tiny wrap-around choli and sheer dupatta with glittering border.
For that show stopping entry, fashion seekers will rush to covet the ‘Mishru’ label’s latest collection “Reminisce” by Swapna Anumolu for the coming season.
