B-town’s popular producer and co-founder of UTV plans to spend Rs 1,015 crore over the next five years to uplift 1 million villagers in Maharashtra
It is certainly a matter of pride that one of India’s top movie producers features on Forbes’ list of top philanthropists this year. Co-Founder of UTV and Managing Director of Walt Disney India, Rohinton ‘Ronnie’ Screwvala is one of the four Indians who shines bright on this prestigious list, the other three being Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (CMD of Biocon), PNC Menon (Chairman Emeritus of Sobha Developers) and Vineet Nayar (VC and Jt MD of HCL Technologies).
The annual list of ‘Heroes of Philanthropy’ is complied by Forbes Asia, and the remarkable feat is that 48 per cent of philanthropists this year belong to the Asia-Pacific region – China, Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia. Interestingly, Ronnie is the only one from the movie business who has been noted for his philanthropy work.
Proud feeling Mr Screwvala! We need many more like him!
