Richie Mehta’s harrowing Netflix series “Delhi Crime” was the big winner at the 2nd annual Asian Academy Creative Awards in Singapore on Friday.
“Delhi Crime” earned her best actress in a leading role, best drama series and best direction, and fiction, for Mehta. Earlier, the series also won best original program by a streamer/OTT on the first night of the two-day awards.
Delhi Crime is a crime drama web television series written and directed by Richie Mehta. The series stars Shefali Shah, Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain and Rajesh Tailang, the series is set in the aftermath of the 2012 Delhi gang rape.
The series chronicled the detailed account of 2012 Delhi gang rape case that took place in the neighbourhood of Munirka, in South Delhi. The series follows the story in the aftermath of the gang rape, where Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Vartika Chaturvedi is tasked to find the culprits, responsible for the assaults and death of the female victim.
The series bagged 4 awards under different categories, Shefali Shah bagged Best Actress in a Leading Role, and director Richie Mehta bagged Best Direction (Fiction) along with Best Drama Series and Best Original Programme by a Streamer/OTT.
The first two episodes were premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in the Indie Episodic category. The series was released on Netflix on 22 March 2019. The show was renewed for a second season with the main cast returning.
