“A poor man made impossible possible” says Ketan Mehta about his upcoming Movie, Manjhi-The Mountain man at a promotional interview here in Mumbai.
Ketan Mehta directorial “Manjhi-The Mountain Man” starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte, is based on real life of Dashrath Manjhi, widely known as the "Mountain Man" was a poor laborer in Gehlaur village, who carved a path through a mountain using only a hammer and chisel.
“A man fueled with love, spent 22 years of his life to break down a mountain to make road. I couldn’t believe it, so I went all the way to his village in Bihar. When I saw the rocky mountain, I was shocked that someone broke this, I mean the sheer madness of the thought, it was so inspirational, I had to make a movie about it” says Ketan Mehta.
Dashrath Manjhi lost his wife to an unfortunate accident, when she slipped and fell from mountain. Manjhi couldn’t save his wife as he had to travel 75 Km for medical help due to mountain. Determined and fueled with love to make other life better, he broke a rocky mountain to make road in 22 years, alone.
“Today in our country we need this kind of inspiration, this kind of positive energy and role models. A common man, an ordinary man, who performed an extraordinary task” says Ketan.
Making this movie has been a mammoth and challenging task, as director, actor and team climbed mountain to shoot, in order to establish authenticity.
“Entire team, all the artists have worked with same obsession! Movie is made with a lot of passion and obsession. We all would climb mountain every day to shoot the film. This film is really close to my heart” says Ketan Mehta.
Movie also stars Tigmanshu Dhulia, Gaurav Dwivedi and Deepa Sahi. The film is scheduled for worldwide release on 21 August 2015.
