Verdict : One should not miss this fabulous family drama
This week’s big release Kapoor & Sons which comes from Karan Johar production is the much anticipated since its trailer released. Flaunted as a family drama the film has created quite a stir within the audience. Let’s check out what the movie has to offer for the movie goers.
Story: It's a story about two brothers Rahul (Fawad Khan) and Arjun Kapoor (Sidharth Malhotra) and both are living entirely different lives in London and New Jersey. Rahul is established as a successful writer, Arjun struggles to find his right passion. In Coonoor, their family has three more members: Daddu (Rishi Kapoor), father Harsh (Rajat Kapoor) and mother Sunita (Ratna Pathak Shah).
A call from 90-year-old Daddu brings both brothers to home. The family is not a quite perfect in terms of the relationship they shares, which comprises the yelling or throwing things at each other often. And no, they don’t do it in joke.
In all seriousness, the Kapoor family is sitting on a ticking time bomb. And then enters Tia (Alia Bhatt), the potential trigger.
And here is the point where the director’s careful projection starts! Rahul and Arjun’s character grows eventually and Tia is at the center of attention without limiting anyone’s breathing space.
What’s Hot : The screenplay continues picking up energy. There are easy moments, but that is to release pressure from blowing up. When you meet Rishi Kapoor's character, you promptly understand his affection for showy behavior, but you also see a method in his madness. His irrepressible yearning to watch Mandakini can't disguise his aching for a family photograph.
There’s a strong Karan Johar impression on Kapoor & Sons, but that is expected. After all, he is the producer of the film. But what we didn’t expect was the finesse with which director Shakun Batra has narrated a predictable story. You may find Kapoor & Sons a repeat of some Dharma Productions’ films, but the treatment makes it an engaging 140-minute film.
Whats Not: The film takes as much time as necessary to unwind its plot, so it may feel somewhat monotonous for individuals who love quick paced movies. Additionally the plot, with the exception of a colossal disclosure in the second half, is extremely predictable however then the maker's aim about the film was not to amaze you but rather to make you feel for the family and their little delights and distresses. Furthermore who has an expectation to watch an Alia Bhatt – Sidharth Malhotra-Fawad Khan love triangle will be distressfully disillusioned! The film is not just about that! Kar Gayi Chull was charming to hear and comes at the right minute, yet perhaps they ought to have gotten rid of the choreographed move steps! It would have then supplemented well with the feeling of authenticity that the majority of the film was making progress toward.
Performances: Fawad Khan is an immensely talented actor, who acts from his hearts. He was fantastic in his debut Pakistani film Khuda Kay Liye. He was satisfactory in Khoobsoorat, but here his capabilities as an actor are on a full display in Kapoor & Sons.
Alia Bhatt is that piece of cheese that makes the sandwich lust worthy. Needless to say that she has done justice to her role. Sidharth Malhotra is improving with each and every film, and here also, he is superb. Rishi Kapoor is totally engrossed as a jovial but loving grandpa, obsessing over Mandakini in Ram Teri Ganga Maili. Rishi Kapoor and gives in one of the best performances in recent times. Even Rajat Kapoor and Ratna Pathak Shah are topnotch, and share some of the best scenes among themselves!
Over all, You'll love the film for being unconstrained, precise, quick paced and well...lovable. A fabulous family show after quite a while.
