Verdict : If no-brainer comedies are your thing, you may enjoy this
Story : The storyline is predictable: a millionaire with a mansion in London, eligible daughters, unlikely suitors and a mindless pursuit to convince the said millionaire to accept the unlikely suitors. An Indian businessman Batuk Patel (Boman Irani) has built an empire in London. His daughters – lovingly named Ganga, Jamuna and Saraswati (played by Jacqueline Fernandez, Lisa Haydon and Nargis Fakhri). The problem is Patel doesn’t want his daughters to get married at all. Then, three buffoons enter the picture: Sandy (Akshay Kumar), a football player who suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder and turns into ‘Sundy’ every time he hears the word ‘Indian’ (there’s more than a touch of xenophobia in the way this is depicted); Teddy (Riteish Deshmukh), a race-car driver who is apparently famous enough to get a wax statue of his own in Madame Tussaud’s; and Abhi (Abhishek Bachchan), a ‘rapper’ who thinks it’s still the ‘90s.
Performances: Housefull 3 does lack some of the crackling energy from the previous film, and it’s Kumar who keeps the momentum going. Akshay Kumar is the most committed from the cast and his instant jig on Pinga (Bajirao Mastani) to prove that he isn't physically handicapped is surely the high point of this film. Riteish Deshmukh has made a career out of multi-starrer where he cannot singularly be blamed or credited for the fate of the film. That said, Riteish is fairly sharp with his comic timing and executes his verbal slips with ease. He ends up saying, 'will you be my tavaif' when he means, 'will you be my wife?'. Abhishek Bachchan's contribution to comedy is restricted to wordlessly reacting to sitting on a cactus, while none of the female actors deserve a mention. Boman Irani is the Paresh Rawal of the last decade, his presence and comic excellence have helped elevate many films. But here, he seems a bit jaded, but that's only because he's made to mouth one-liners that lack punch and seem laboured.
Whats Hot: There are genuinely funny portions where you will laugh or at least smile, but most of the jokes are outright lame. And the one-liners which should've had you bursting with laughter end up falling flat on their faces.
What’s not: Jokes from Whatsapp and Facebook memes are thrown in every five minutes, to the point where it starts getting on your nerves. The worst part is, they aren't even funny.
Over all, If no-brainer comedies are your thing, you may enjoy this.
