Verdict : One time watch
Katrina Kaif-Aditya Roy Kapur-starrer Fitoor appears to be a fairly shallow issue and a disappointing adaptation of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations . For one, there is over sensation of circumstances. The screenplay highlights and neglects to draw audience regardless of terrible exhibitions by Aditya and Tabu.
Noor (Aditya Roy Kapur) loves Firdaus (Katrina Kaif) yet has never had the capacity to entirely convey. He meets the woman after years and finds that the power of his emotions has not diminished and she plays along. What might you anticipate that a Bollywood hero will do? Admit love and convey some high-octane emotional dialogs? That is not what you get in Abhishek Kapoor's Fitoor. Our hero Noor, takes a gander at his darling with such power, is apprehensive around her cutie and acts much like a youngster around his squash.
Aditya plays Pip’s character from the novel, an aspiring artist Noor, while Tabu plays the Indian version of Miss Havisham - Begum Hazrat. Katrina Kaif steps in as the frosty Estella, called Firdaus in the Bollywood adaptation.
Story :The original is the story of the wealthy Miss Havisham who is so shattered when her groom does not turn up for their wedding, that from that day forward she remains dressed in her bridal finery, keeps her home decorated as it was for the celebrations and lets her wedding cake lie rotting on her dining table.
She gives vent to her bitterness towards her cheating lover by training her foster child, an orphan called Estella, to break the hearts of men. Pip – the hero and an orphan himself – is smitten from the moment he meets the little girl. The book travels with them into their adulthood, which is marred by the manner in which old Miss Havisham has affected the young woman’s ability to love.
Whats hot :
Fitoor is set in Kashmir, the state gives a wonderful canvas on which the story can be painted. Cinematographer Anay Goswami merits credit for catching Kashmir's stunning flawlessness in every one of its points of interest - the white snow-shrouded mountains, red chinar leaves and the dark of winters. Amit Trivedi's heartfelt music enamors us, encompassed as we are with so much dreamlike magnificence.
Whats Not: Even though the performances by the actors and the art direction was fine, we weren’t excited by the film as the story didn‘t live up to the expectations. The script, written by director Kapoor along with Supratik Sen, though close to the source material, lacks depth in characterization, especially that of Mirza Beg. And, thereby the tale loses its plot and emotional quotient, which is so apparent in Dickens’s novel.
Performances: Aditya and Tabu are without a doubt the best bets in Fitoor. Katrina Kaif is Firdaus, red of hair, fair of skin and blank of expression.
Overall, “Fitoor” does not live up to the great expectations you have for the film.
